Coach Herrick Hosts 30 Former Players at Inaugural Alumni Game
Event draws the participation of many of the Women's Basketball program’s all-time greats.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, longtime College of the Canyons women's head basketball coach Greg Herrick welcomed back 30 of his former players to the Cougar Cage for the program's inaugural Alumni Game.
With some of COC's very best women's basketball players from throughout the past 22 years starring on the court, the game attracted a sizeable crowd of Cougar basketball fans.
"I can honestly say that this game was one of the top five events of my entire coaching career," said Herrick. "Not only were there 30 ex-players in attendance, but they included many of the program's all-time greats."
Included among the participants were former All American and COC Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Kyetra Brown; 2010 California Community College Co-Player of the Year Ashley Wakefield; current COC assistant coach Linnae Barber; current Hart High School women's basketball head coach Terra Palmer; and former COC All-State Team Honorees Leslie Ortiz, La Cresha Clark, Ofolangi Mailangi and Kaipresha Price.
Prior to tip-off the group of alumni was divided into two teams, which paired some former teammates together, while forcing others to square off against each other for the first time in years.
Members of Coach Herrick's current roster of players were assigned head coaching, announcing and scorekeeping duties for the evening.
The Alumni Game served as a precursor to the 2014-2015 COC women's basketball season, which officially began on Nov. 7.
