Canyons Can't Cash In at Tourney Finals
Nayiri Alsatian leads Cougars with 15 points
MOORPARK, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting performance in a 64-57 loss to West Hills College Lemoore in the Moorpark College Classic tourney championship on Sunday afternoon.
Neither team had a particularly strong offensive showing, with the Cougars shooting a paltry 22.2 percent from the field.
Freshman forward Nayiri Aslanian led COC in scoring with 15 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists.
Canyon High School graduate Monica Freidl, turned in a solid all-around game with 12 points and seven rebounds, while guard Jordan Oster led the bench scoring with 13 points.
The loss drops COC's record to 6-3 on the season.
Canyons will participate in another pre-conference tournament — the Coast Christmas Tournament — beginning Thursday, Dec. 18.
COC's first matchup in the Coast Tourney pits the Cougars against the Chaffey College Panthers in a 1 p.m. tipoff.
