VENTURA, Calif. — A 24-point first half deficit was too much for the Cougars to overcome, as COC lost to Mt. San Antonio College 70-51 on Saturday in the second round of the Ventura-Kiwanis Tournament.
COC guard Qimmah Russo led all scorers with 17 points and also tallied four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Monica Friedl added eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Cougars' second unit was outscored 23-18 by Mt. SAC reserves.
The Cougars were somewhat stifled offensively, shooting only 34.1 percent from the field and committing 25 turnovers.
Canyons drops to 3-2 on the season and will next take on Santa Monica College in the tourney's consolation bracket.
