Cougars Get First Round Tourney Win over Chaffey
Monica Friedl, Julie Ilsby and Jordan Oster each score 12 points to lead Canyons

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in its 69-55 win over Chaffey College in the first game of the 2014 Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic Tournament held in Costa Mesa on Dec. 18.
The Cougars entered the half with a seven-point lead shooting 43.3 percent from the field in the first half.
COC's defense held Chaffey to only 28.6 percent shooting in the first half – and to just 33.3 percent throughout the game.
COC freshman Monica Friedl, freshman Julie Ilsby, and sophomore Jordan Oster each had 12 points to lead the team in scoring. Friedl also had an impressive seven steals to go along with four rebounds.
Canyons guard Lizeth Guzman posted a solid game, scoring 10 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and coming away with four steals in the contest.
The victory brings COC's record to 7-3 on the season. The Cougars will next play Palomar College in the second day of the tourney Friday, Dec. 19.
