COSTA MESA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's basketball team earned a 79-65 victory over host Orange Coast College in the team's final appearance in the annual Orange Coast Christmas Tournament.
Guard Julie Ilsby led the Cougars to victory in the final with 16 points while dishing out seven assists. Ilsby was also named to the All-Tournament team averaging 14 points, five assists and more than a steal per game.
Her backcourt partner, Qimmah Russo, also netted 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in the win.
The Cougars dominated the game leading by as many as 28 points at one point. They headed into halftime with a 25-point lead and didn't look back.
College of the Canyons was red-hot in the first half, hitting 51.5 percent of their shots including 7-of-15 from three-point range.
COC forwards Nayiri Aslanian and Monica Friedl had big games as well.
Aslanian scored 13 points and collected 11 rebounds, while Friedl scored 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds.
