Cougars Complete Dominant 84-46 Win Over L.A. Valley
COC sophomore guard Qimmah Russo was 11-of-17 from the field to finish with 23 points, along with a game-high six steals.
Simply put, the College of the Canyons women's basketball was dominant in its 84-46 wire-to-wire win over L.A. Valley on Wednesday night.
COC sophomore guard Qimmah Russo was 11-of-17 from the field to finish with 23 points, along with a game-high six steals. Not far behind that mark, sophomore forward Amber Evans was credited with five steals, six assists, eight rebounds and seven points.
The second half saw more of COC's traditional fast-paced offense and pressuring defensive attack. With 13:23 to go in the game, COC had nearly doubled the Monarchs point total at 49-25.
Forward Monica Friedl had another strong game for Canyons, particularly in the second half. The freshman made her presence felt everywhere on the court, with 19 points, eight boards and six blocks and two steals.
With Russo and Friedl maintaining a strong fast break, low post combination for Canyons, the Cougars closed out any hope of a Monarch comeback.
As a team, Canyons shot 50.8 percent from the field and 40 percent from downtown. The Cougars also forced 27 Monarch turnovers.
COC (12-6, 2-1) with next host Glendale College (7-10, 2-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Cougar Cage.
