Cougars Show Claws with 67-59 win over West L.A. Wildcats
Freshman Hannah Green makes big impression in season debut with 16 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The College of the Canyons women's basketball team pulled its record against Western State Conference (WSC), South above .500 with a solid effort vs. host West L.A. College on Wednesday night.
Canyons (13-7, 3-2) had three players score in double-digits vs. the Wildcats, including freshman forward Hannah Green, who made her season debut to the tune of 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, five rebounds and a block.
Fellow freshman forward Monica Friedl was equally effective, scoring 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and tallying 12 rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Sophomore forward Nayiri Aslanian got in on the action with 15 points and nine rebounds of her own, giving the Cougars a formidable trio in the low post.
Elsewhere, Qimmah Russo and Julie Ilsby each scored seven points for the Cougars.
COC has alternated wins and losses through the entirety of its conference schedule.
However, the Cougars will be looking to change that stat when they host conference rival Bakersfield College at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Cougar Cage.
