COC Women’s Basketball Program Has Two Players Commit to Four-Year Schools

Two members of the College of the Canyons women's basketball team have committed to continue their playing careers at the next level, as sophomores Nayiri Aslanian and Jordan Oster will both transfer to four-year schools in the fall.

Aslanian is heading to Texas A&M International University, an NCAA Division II program located in Laredo, Texas.

Meanwhile, Oster will make the trip north to play at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, an NCAA Division III program. 

"Nayiri and Jordan wore their COC uniforms with distinction and pride," said COC women's head basketball coach Greg Herrick. "Their work ethic and contributions to the program will be missed. Both players will be great additions to their respective colleges."

Aslanian, a Taft High School graduate, played in 28 games for the Cougars in 2014-15, averaging 17 minutes per game and producing 7.9 points per contest to rank fourth on the team in scoring. Her 6.7 rebounds per game were also good for second on the team. 

In her two seasons at COC, Aslanian averaged 6.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

At Texas A&M International Aslanian will be reunited with her former college teammate, COC graduate Keiona "Keke" Mathews (2012-2014), who joined the Dustdevils program last season.

Oster played in all 29 games for the Cougars this season, while starting eight, and averaged 12 minutes per game. The Saugus High School product posted 8.2 points per game, while shooting 30 percent from behind the three-point line.

Over the course of her COC career Oster averaged 6.6 points per contest.

Canyons concluded the 2014-15 season with a 16-13 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the Western State Conference, South Division, failing to reach the postseason for the first time in 22 seasons.
