No. 6 Canyons Wins Again, Streak Pushed to 12 Games
The Lady Cougars posted a 70-58 road victory over host Antelope Valley College on Wednesday.
The No. 6 ranked College of the Canyons women's basketball team extended its win streak to 12 games with a 70-58 victory over host Antelope Valley College on Wednesday.
Canyons (17-4, 7-0) is averaging 76.2 points per game on the season, with an average margin of victory of 16 points and 18 points vs. conference opponents.
On Wednesday, the Lady Cougars were led by sophomore forward Hannah Green who posted her ninth double-double this season with 29 points and 14 rebounds — both game highs. Green also had three steals and added to her program record shot blocking total with five more rejections vs. AVC.
Green continues to lead the state in bocks at a rate of 6.6 per game.
COC sophomore forward Monica Friedl added 19 points and was one block shy of a double-double with nine. Friedl also added three assists.
Freshman guard Erin Kiley added eight points and five rebounds and point guard Marina Rojas added seven points and a game high eight assists.
Freshman guard Cierra O'Brien also added seven points and three assists.
Canyons hasn't lost a game in more than a month. The team's last defeat came by way of Irvine Valley College in a 57-51 contest played during the annual Costa Mesa Coast Christmas Classic tourney on Dec. 17.
As a result, COC continues to sit atop the Western State Conference, South standings.
The Lady Cougars will return home on Saturday Jan. 30, to host Santa Monica College. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
