No. 6 Lady Cougars Defeat Santa Monica, Win Streak at 13 Games
Canyons has three players finish with 17 points, as Hannah Green, Monica Friedl and Erin Kiley helped pace the attack.
The No. 6 regionally ranked College of the Canyons women's basketball team started the second round of Western State Conference (WSC) play, the same way it opened up the conference season — with a victory.
Canyons (18-4, 8-0) defeated visiting Santa Monica College 81-69 on Saturday night, extending its win streak to 13 games. The Lady Cougars have not lost a contest since Dec. 17.
COC had three players with 17 points, as sophomore forwards Hannah Green and Monica Friedl and freshman guard Erin Kiley helped pace the Canyons attack.
Green added 15 rebounds and Friedl pulled down 11 boards of her own, giving both players a double-double for the evening. Friedl also registered seven assists vs. the Corsairs.
On the defensive end, Green added eight more blocks to her season stat line, tightening her grip on the program's all-time shot block record. Green broke the previous mark of 131 vs. L.A. Valley on Jan. 23.
COC freshman guards Marina Rojas and Cierra O'Brien each added eight points and five assists. O'Brien and Kiley also had two steals each against the Corsairs.
Canyons returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, as the Lady Cougars host Bakersfield College (4-14, 3-5) in the Cougar Cage.
