No. 6 Canyons Can't Be Contained, Wins 88-54 vs. Bakersfield
Lady Cougars extend win streak to 14 games, having won by an average margin of 16.2 points per game during that span.
The No. 6 regionally ranked College of the Canyons women's basketball team defeated visiting Bakersfield College 88-54 on Wednesday night in the Cougar Cage.
Canyons (19-4, 9-0) hasn't lost a game since Dec. 17, a span of 14 games.
During that streak the Lady Cougars have won by an average margin of 16.2 points per game. In Western State Conference (WSC) play they have won by an average of 18.8 points per game. Their closest game was a five-point victory vs. Citrus on Jan. 16.
This is the women's basketball program's longest win streak since the 2009-2010 season. The Lady Cougars won 19 games in a row that year en route to a 22-5 overall record.
During the win-streak sophomore forwards Hannah Green and Monica Friedl have led the way both offensively and defensively.
Green and Friedl have posted 12 double-doubles each during the streak. Included in that total is one triple-double, recorded by Green.
Against Bakersfield, Green led the Cougars with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds. Her four steals and four blocks were also game highs.
Friedl's statline was equally impressive, as the sophomore finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals to help Canyons get the win.
COC freshman guard Cierra O'Brien also had a nice night with10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Freshman guard Erin Kiley helped out with her nine points and eight rebounds, and fellow freshman Marina Rojas added seven points and a game-high six assists.
Canyons will next travel to Glendale College (3-19, 0-9) on Saturday February 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
