No. 6 Canyons Clinches Share of WSC, South Title With 72-61 Win Over Citrus

The No. 6 ranked College of the Canyons women's basketball team has clinched at least a share of the Western State Conference (WSC), South title with its 72-61 victory over visiting Citrus College on Wednesday night.

However, the final score does not reflect how close this game was.
Both teams battled through the first three quarters, with the score was knotted at 52 apiece heading into the fourth.
From there Canyons settled into defensive mode, forcing two turnovers and getting two blocks from sophomore forwards Hannah Green and Monica Friedl in the fourth quarter. The strong defensive effort helped limit Citrus to just three field goals in the period.
Friedl led all scorers with 26 points and added 12 rebounds and a block. This was Friedl's ninth double-double in conference play and 18th on the season.
Green led the game with 18 rebounds and nine blocks. She also added 17 points, for her ninth double-double vs. conference opponents and 17th overall.
COC freshman guard Cierra O'Brien added 14 points and four rebounds.
Freshman Marina Rojas led the game with nine assists and added eight points and four rebounds.
Canyons (21-4, 11-0) returns to action on Saturday, as the Lady Cougars travel to West L.A. College (7-17, 3-8). Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
