College of the Canyons women's basketball player Monica Friedl will continue her collegiate playing career as a Cougar, after committing to attend California State University, San Marcos in the fall.
Friedl is a two-time All-Western State Conference (WSC) First Team selection.
During the 2015-16 campaign the sophomore led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 18.9 points per game to rank second in the conference.
Friedl's 12 rebounds per game also ranked second in the conference and ninth in the state.
The Canyon High School product started all 29 games for the Cougars, posting 10 or more points in all but one outing.
The six-foot-inch forward also topped the 20-point plateau in 12 games this season. Her 45.9 field goal percentage ranked second on the team among qualifying players.
Friedl also posted double-digit rebounding totals in 20 games, including a streak of four games from Jan. 9-20 in which she pulled down at least 18 boards each night out. Along the way she recorded 23 steals to go with 53 blocked shots.
Over the course of her two-year COC career she averaged 16.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
"Monica Friedl has epitomized what it means to be a COC women's basketball player," said COC head coach Greg Herrick. "She is a consummate teammate, hard worker, always looking to make her team better, consistent and productive.
"Finishing her Cougar career at No. 8 on the all-time career scoring list and being named a two-time All-Western State Conference First Team selection were just two of the indicators that Monica left her imprint on our program," added Herrick.
Cal State San Marcos is an NCAA Division II program located in San Marcos, CA. The Cougars are members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). San Marcos finished 7-18 last season under head coach Renee Jimenez.
