College of the Canyons sophomore Dayna Tanaka has committed to attending La Sierra University to continue her playing career.
La Sierra University is an NAIA program located in Riverside. The Eagles compete in the California Pacific Conference.
Tanaka is expected to report to the team in early September, with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"I am very excited for this new opportunity to keep playing basketball and continue my academic career," Tanaka said. "COC has helped me prepare for the next two years both athletically and academically."
A two-year player for the Cougars, Tanaka averaged 7.2 points and 2.1 assists per game during her sophomore season while playing in all 27 contests for COC head coach Greg Herrick.
As a freshman in 2016-17, Tanaka led COC in scoring with an average of 15.7 points per game, to rank ninth in the WSC.
Canyons finished the 2017-18 season with a 16-11 overall record and 7-1 mark in conference play to share a co-WSC, South Division Championship with West L.A. College. The championship is the 16th in program history. Despite that regular season success, Canyons did not qualify for the postseason.
