NEW RANKINGS — Women's Basketball Ranked No. 4 in State

College of the Canyons is the No. 4 ranked team in the state according to the most recent California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) statewide coaches poll released on Dec. 6.
Canyons (8-1) is also the second ranked team in the Southern California region behind No. 2 state ranked Palomar College.

The Cougars are off to their best start in program history having just recently suffered their first loss in a 61-42 affair vs. No. 1 ranked San Joaquin Delta College (9-0) on Saturday.
COC head coach Greg Herrick is sitting on 599 career wins in his 30th year and 29th season at the helm of the program.
The Cougars finished second at the 45th Annual Gilcrest Tournament held Dec. 2-4, posting wins over No. 11 College of the Sequoias in the opener and No. 10 Mt. SAC on day two.
Canyons also won the annual VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions held Nov. 18-20, racking up wins over Napa Valley, Mt. SAC and No. 13 Long Beach City College.
COC freshman LuLu Salloom is leading the Cougars with 15.9 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Those totals rank third and second, respectively, in the conference. Malia Semana is second in the conference with 4.8 assists per game and Salloom is third at 4.6.
COC is averaging 72.4 points per game to rank 14th in the state and is shooting 42.2 from the floor, good for the state's No. 6 mark. The Cougars are averaging 44.6 rebounds each night to slot just inside the top-20 in that category.
Herrick and the Cougars will play their next five games on the road before opening conference play in the home-opener on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 vs. Antelope Valley College.
Up next, COC will compete in the Glendale College Crossover Dec. 17-18. The Cougars take on Rio Hondo at 4 p.m. on Friday in the tourney's opening round, then return to play Allan Hancock College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.
Canyons will also compete in the Husky Classic Dec. 27-29 with opponents and brackets still to be determined.
