Canyons Gets Third Straight Conference Win, 69-59 at AVC

LANCASTER — College of the Canyons pushed past host Antelope Valley College 69-59 on Saturday night, tacking on another win vs. a Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponent. 

Canyons (9-8, 3-1) has now won three straight contests since dropping its conference opener on Jan. 4.

COC and AVC battled back and forth for the majority of the night, with the Cougars marginally leading 28-25 at the half.

The Marauders (6-11, 1-2) managed to take the third quarter by two points, but Canyons quickly regained the lead in the fourth quarter with a 25-13 outburst and didn't let up. 

The 69-59 victory was a combined effort from the Cougars' lineup.

COC sophomore Monique Febles scored 23 points in her 40 minutes on the court while April Tuason followed with 18 of her own.

LuLu Salloom commanded the court with 14 rebounds, five offensive. Hannah Tolentino and Jazmine Washington added eight rebounds each, both with three offensive and five defensive.

AVC saw strong performances from sophomore Kristen Lopez who netted 22 points, going 7-of-20 and freshman Courtney Hart ended the night with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Upcoming Schedule

The Cougars are on the road Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a 5 p.m. tip-off at West Los Angeles College.

Canyons then returns home to the Cougar Cage for a 3 p.m. start against Glendale College on Saturday, Jan. 21. Saturday's game will be live streamed to fans for free via YouTube on the Cougars Sports Network.
