COC Claims Second WSC Tourney Win
Cougars Take 2nd, 3rd and 5th Spots on Way to Team Victory
The College of the Canyons women's golf team won its second Western State Conference (WSC) in as many weeks, turning in a team score of 326 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 15.
In the process, the Cougars also claimed three of the top six overall spots. Tiffany Whittaker shot a 76 to take the tourney's second spot, while Elisabeth Mortensen carded a 79 and Andrew Webster an 81 to finish third and fifth respectively.
Whittaker's score of 76 left the freshman just one stroke away from finishing in a first place tie with Citrus College's Lexandra So.
The Cougars' mark of 326 was good enough to beat out tournament host and second place finisher Santa Barbara City College (348), third place Citrus College (368) and fourth place Bakersfield College (451). Glendale College also had two student-athletes participate in the event as individuals.
Though Canyons was only able to count its top four player scores, the team's fifth and sixth place finishers also outscored several of the other tourney entrants.
Sophomore Kathy Quock finished the course with a score of 90. Meanwhile, freshman Julia Youn recorded a final score of 93.
College of the Canyons will next host its WSC tournament at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills.
