Canyons Comes Away with Another Conference Victory

The College of the Canyons women's golf team finished in first place at this week's Western State Conference (WSC) Tournament No. 4, held at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course in San Dimas, continuing its conference undefeated streak.

The Cougars have now won the first four WSC tournaments of the season to earn their spot atop the standings.

Canyons turned in a score of 341 to finish in first place, ahead of second place Santa Barbara City College (358) and Citrus College (390). Bakersfield finished in fourth place with a score of 423.

COC freshman Tiffany Whittaker was the Cougars' top finisher with an 18-hole score of 80, good for the tournament's second individual spot. Citrus golfer Jamie Lopez was the tournament's first place winner with a score of 78.

Canyons golfers Elisabeth Mortensen, Andrea Webster and Julia Youn each turned in a score of 87 to follow Whittaker's effort en route to the victory.

College of the Canyons will next participate in WSC Tournament No. 5 on Monday, Oct. 13, at Kern Valley Golf Course in Bakersfield.
