Whittaker Earns All-State Honors at CCCAA State Championships
COC sophomore Julia Youn finished in the tournament’s 15th spot.
College of the Canyons sophomores Tiffany Whittaker and Julia Youn each turned in strong performances to close out the 2015 season during the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's Golf State Championship held Nov. 15-16 at Morro Bay Golf Course.
Competing as an individual, Whittaker turned in a two-day score of 162 (80/82) to finish in fifth place and earn All-State honors for a second straight year. In 2014 Whittaker also finished in fifth place at the State Championship with a 36-hole score of 156.
Meanwhile, Youn finished in the tournament's 15th spot with a score of 170 (82/88).
Both student-athletes also earned All-Western State Conference (WSC) honors earlier this season.
As a team, Canyons finished the 2015 season in third place in the WSC before following up that effort with a third place finish at the CCCAA SoCal Regionals.
In both events, Canyons trailed only its conference rivals — first place Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) and second place Citrus College.
Following suit at the State Championships, it was SBCC who brought home the state title, with Citrus finishing 27 strokes behind in second place.
