Cougars Cap Busy Week with Pair of Second Place Finishes
The College of the Canyons women's golf team completed a busy week on the links, with the Cougars taking second place in two separate Western State Conference events.
On Monday, Oct. 2, the Cougars carded a score of 343 at Crystalaire Country Club to place second at the WSC event hosted by Antelope Valley College.
COC freshman Joanna Roecker had the second lowest score of the day, placing second overall with her round of 77. Vanessa Watkins of Santa Barbara City College earned medalist honrs with a score of 75.
Elsewhere for the Cougars, Adelrina Kim shot an 87, followed by Gina Chung at 89 and Stephanie Blin at 90.
Those numbers placed COC behind event winner SBCC at 324. Moorpark College took third with a score of 352.
Two days later, the Cougars were back out on the course at the WSC event hosted by Citrus College at San Dimas Canyon golf course.
Once again, it was SBCC with a first place score of 323, followed by Canyons at 348 and third place Bakersfield at 367.
However, this time it was Roecker who earned medalist honors with a score of 74. That mark bested the round of 77 turned in by Elly Carlson of SBCC.
Chung finished with a round of 81, followed by Alexandra Guerrero at 89 and Blin at 104.
The action will continue for Canyons on Monday, Oct. 9, as the Cougars get set to compete at the WSC Bakersfield event taking place at Rio Bravo Country Club.
