CAMARILLO, Calif. — College of the Canyons continued its impressive 2019 campaign on Monday, winning its 19th straight conference event at Camarillo Springs golf course to close out the regular season and claim a second straight Western State Conference (WSC) championship.
COC sophomore Haruka Koda also won the conference's individual championship for a second straight season. Koda posted an even par opening round score of 72 on Sunday then followed up with a one-under 71 to finish the event at 143. Koda was named the medalist in six conference events this season, including the two-day WSC Finals, to run away with the individual conference title.
Canyons sophomores Paige Heuer, Jessie Lin and Shabana Poswal joined Koda as All-WSC honorees, while COC head coach Gary Peterson was named the conference coach of the year.
Heuer posted a two-under round of 70 in Sunday's opening round to earn medalist honors for the second time this season. She wrapped up the event with a score of 80 for a two-day total of 170, good for second overall behind Koda.
Lin followed with rounds of 76 and 77 for a total of 153 to slot into the tourney's third place spot. Poswal (170-83/87) tied for seventh overall.
Fredeliza Lieberman (178-88/90) and Delaney Young (198-103/95) also played for Canyons but had their scores dropped.
