LANCASTER — College of the Canyons continues to narrow the gap behind conference-leading Antelope Valley College, with the Cougars falling just seven strokes back of the hosting Marauders at the Western State Conference (WSC) event at AV Country Club on Monday.
Cougars golfers Katie La Torre, Marie Naud and Tyra Boozer each finished in the top-10 of the individual standings to help drive Canyons.
AVC (373) won the event followed by Canyons (380), Citrus College (396) and Bakersfield (432). The four programs have now finished in that same order at back-to-back tournaments. Student-athletes from Moorpark and Santa Barbara City College continue to compete as individuals, but do not factor into team scoring.
La Torre and Naud both finished their day with rounds of 92 to tie for the tourney's No. 6 spot. La Torre has now finished first or second for Canyons at the last three events.
Naud shaved seven strokes off her score from a week ago to finish top-10 in the standings for the fourth time this season.
Tyra Boozer carded a 94 to finish just behind Naud and La Torre in the No. 8 spot. Monday's round was a nice bounce back for Boozer who do not score at last week's WSC event. She now has a pair of top-10 finishes to her credit this season.
Delaney Hollinger's round of 102 was the final scoring mark for COC. Ashley Cortez (113) and Samantha McCray (116) both competed but saw their scores dropped from the final tally.
The Cougars will next compete at the WSC event hosted by Moorpark College on Monday, Oct. 11. That event is scheduled to tee off at 10 a.m. from Simi Hills Golf Course.
