By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director
SANTA BARBARA —College of the Canyons won its second straight Western State Conference (WSC) tourney to begin the season, with five players finishing in the top-15 of the individual strandings at Santa Barbara Golf Course.
COC sophomore Motoko Shimoji was once again the leader of the pack with her two-over-par round of 74, placing her runner-up in the field of 36. Shimoji previously brought home medalist honors in the season-opening tournament Aug. 28.
Flora Peugnet was next at 79, with the sophomore settling into fourth place.
Nisha Gaulke carded a round of 90 to take 14th with Elena Ortuno-Montalban and Brooke Maxwell each shooting 91 to tie for 15th.
Maxwell would end up having her score dropped from the final team total. Same for freshman Linnéa Nilsson's score of 97.
Isabelle Olivas-Lowell was the event medalist with her four-under-par round of 68 for Citrus College.
Canyons (334) was followed by Moorpark College (342), host Santa Barbara City College (344) and Bakersfield College (357) in the top four spots.
Those four schools also filled the top four spots in the season opener, with COC winning that event by 14 strokes ahead of Bakersfield.
It should be another showdown when the action shifts to Sterling Hills Golf Course in Camarillo for the WSC event hosted by Moorpark on Monday, Sept. 18.
