
Canyons Finishes Fourth at 3C2A State Preview

PASO ROBLES — College of the Canyons made a trip to Hunter Ranch Golf Course for the two-day 3C2A State Preview tournament held Oct. 9-10 in Paso Robles, with the Lady Cougars taking home a fourth-place team finish.
Mt. San Antonio College was crowned the victor with its two-day, four-player score of 652. Modesto College (690) finished in second with Reedley College (691) just a stroke behind in third followed by Canyons (697).
Modesto and Reedley both competed at the 2022 3C2A State Championship tournament alongside the Lady Cougars, where the Cougars finished runner-up to Reedley as the state champion.
COC sophomore Motoko Shimoji led the way once again for Canyons, finishing the tournament with a total score of 158 (80/78).
Flora Peugnet was close behind with her two-day total of 164 (81/83).
Canyons freshman Elena Ortuno-Montalban played consistently both days finishing the event at 187 (94/93) and Nisha Gaulke was two strokes behind that pace at 189 (98/91).
Brooke Maxwell ended the tournament at 195 (103/92), while Linnéa Nilsson closed things out for the Lady Cougars with her score of 230 (110/120).
COC will next participate in the final regular season Western State Conference (WSC) event Monday, Oct. 23 at the Santa Maria Country Club. The tourney, hosted by Allan Hancock College, is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
Canyons will then play at the WSC Championships Oct. 29-30 at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield.
COC is the defending WSC champion having captured the program's 11th conference title in 2022.
