Canyons Finishes Third in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA — College of the Canyons placed third for the second time in as many weeks after carding a four-player score of 384 at Santa Barbara Golf Club on Monday.

The Western State Conference (WSC) event hosted by Santa Barbara City College featured seven programs, with five factoring into the team standings.

Moorpark College (321) won the event followed by host SBCC (332), Canyons (384), Allan Hancock College (422) and Antelope Valley College (481). Bakersfield College and Citrus College both had student-athletes competing as individuals.

COC freshmen Sahya Kitabatake carded a round of 75 to finish second in the individual standings to lead the Cougars.

Canyons freshman Cierra Coia ended the day in 11th with a round of 9. Marianne Meadows and Valerie Sherman tied with another player in a three-way share of 18th place with scores of 107.

Margie Usrey was just off that pace at 109 to finish 21st and TinaMarie Stockdale was at 12 in 27th. Both had their scores scratched from the final team tally.

Annie Betts of SBCC was the event medalist with a two-under par round of 70.

COC next plays at Sterling Hills Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 16 in the WSC event hosted by Moorpark. Tee time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
