Kitabatake Finishes Five Under as Canyons Takes Third

GRANADA HILLS — College of the Canyons freshman Sahya Kitabatake carded a five-under-par round of 68 to earn medalist honors as the Lady Cougars placed third at the Western State Conference (WSC) event at Knollwood Country Club on Monday.

Canyons turned in a four-player score of 358 to trail runner-up Santa Barbara City College (335) and tourney winner Moorpark College (324) across the top three spots. Allan Hancock College (394) represented the final team score on the day.  

Antelope Valley College. Bakersfield College and Citrus College all competed but did not field enough players to factor into the team results.

Monday's round represented the second time Kitabatake has finished under par across the first four events of the season. She has now been named the event medalist on three occasions. 

Annie Betts (76) of SBCC and Kalia Aparicio (78) of Moorpark were the only other players to finish under 80 on the day.

Cierra Coia returned to action for Canyons after a one-week hiatus and completed a round of 92 to finish tied for 12th place.  

Valerie Sherman was just a few slots behind that mark in a tie for 15th with her round of 98. 

Marianne Meadows was the final scoring player for Canyons with a score of 100, placing her in a three-way tie for 17th. Margie Usrey also competed but was forced to withdraw before completing her round.

COC is scheduled to continue conference play Monday Sept. 30 at Rancho Vista Golf Course in the WSC event hosted by Antelope Valley College. Tee time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
