Kitabatake Two Shots Back After Opening Round of 3C2A State Championship Tourney

NIPOMO — College of the Canyons freshman Sahya Kitabatake shot a two-over-par round of 73 at Monarch Dunes Golf Club on Sunday to finish two shots back of the individual lead during the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) State Championships.
Kitabatake, who earned Western State Conference (WSC) Player of the Year honors last month, trails only Michelle Khin (71) of Orange Coast College who fished with an even-par round of 71 in Sunday's opening action.
Lisette Orellana of Moorpark College and Kaitlyn Wang of Mt. San Antonio College are next in the individual standings with their identical rounds of 75.
Modesto College (308) leads the team standings after the first 18 holes. Reedley College (316), Mt. San Antonio College (317), Orange Coast College (323) and Sacramento City College (329) hold the top five positions.

The 2024 Women's Golf State Championships continues Monday, Nov. 18. Kitabatake, the lone representative for Canyons, will tee off at 9:30 a.m. in what is expected to be cold and windy conditions.
