Cougars Best Antelope Valley 3-1
The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team used the second half of Tuesday’s match up against Antelope Valley College to defeat the newest member of the conference 3-1 at COC’s Upper Field.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's soccer team used the second half of Tuesday's match up against Antelope Valley College to defeat the newest member of the conference 3-1 at COC's Upper Field. With the victory, COC improves to 10-1-3 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play.
After a first half that saw the Cougars put up 11 shots, but none of them found the back of the net, Canyons saw the visitors put up the first goal in the 60th minute.
Four minutes later, sophomore Stacey Atwater received a cross from Kelsey Sherry that Atwater kicked past the AVC keeper, to equalize the score.
Canyons continued to press in the 70th minute. Atwater scored her second goal of the day after a deflection that she buried through the net. Sophomore Allie Leon was credited with the assist.
The Cougars added one more score in the 75th minute – this one set up by freshman Anabell Gonzalez. Freshman Lizzie Rivas found an open shot from 21-yards out and ripped the ball past the keeper for the third Cougar goal.
Canyons outshot Antelope Valley 30-2, with Atwater leading all players with 10 tallies. Rivas turned in five shots and Leon and Jennifer Mendez turned in three each.
Goalie Katherine Koury allowed one goal, but didn't notch any saves as the Marauders only had one shot on goal.
Canyons will continue its season on Friday, Oct. 25 as they host Santa Monica at 4 p.m.
