SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's soccer team continued its early season winning ways by shutting out Moorpark College 2-0 at COC's Cougar Stadium on Tuesday night.
Two early first-half goals by Marissa Kneisel and Jennifer Mendez put COC ahead, forcing Moorpark to attempt a comeback for more than 75 minutes of action.
In the 4th minute, Kneisel's strike past Moorpark goalkeeper Tayler Hoge put the Cougars ahead, 1-0. Midfielder Jennifer Brown tallied the assist on what was Kneisel's second goal of the season.
Just 10 minutes later, midfielder Jennifer Mendez netted her first goal of the season, putting COC up for good, 2-0. Minutes later, Hoge was substituted off ending her night while allowing both COC goals in just 18 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, COC goalkeeper Priscilla Duron completed a second consecutive clean sheet while only turning away one shot — a header from Moorpark forward Toni Chavez in the 49th minute.
The Cougars attack was relentless in front of the Moorpark goal. COC mustered 14 shots forcing a combined six saves from Moorpark goalkeepers.
The victory ups COC's record to 2-1-1, while Moorpark drops to 0-1-1.
College of the Canyons next hosts Consumnes River College at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18.
