LANCASTER, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's soccer team continued its hot streak, crushing Antelope Valley College 6-2 in the Western State Conference (WSC) opener on Tuesday afternoon.
Marissa Kneisel scored two goals leading the Cougars and continuing their five-game undefeated streak.
The Cougars left little doubt of the result by halftime. Canyons entered the half with a 4-0 lead on Kneisel's two goals and additional goals from Astrid Perez and Jennifer Mendez. Kneisel also recorded an assist on Mendez's goal.
In the second half, the Cougars continued their assault on the Marauder defense, scoring two more goals within 10 minutes.
COC defender Tori Burgin scored her first goal of the season via an Astrid Perez assist in the 50th minute. Five minutes later, Anabell Gonzalez closed the scoring, netting COC's final goal of the match to take a 6-0 lead.
During the Cougars' five-game undefeated streak the team has scored 17 goals while allowing only two.
The victory boosts COC's record to 4-1-2, with a 1-0-0 record in conference play.
COC next hosts Santa Monica City College at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, on the college's upper field.
