BAKERFIELD, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women's soccer team cannot be stopped right now. COC crushed Bakersfield College 7-1 on Friday afternoon continuing an eight-game unbeaten streak.
The Cougars have not lost since Sept. 4, and have scored an eye-opening 28 goals during the eight-game span.
COC midfielder Brooklynn Stevens netted her first goal of the season in the 13th minute to open the scoring. Lacy Maino was credited with the assist.
Yevenia Alvarez also scored her first goal of the season in 18th minute. Elise Wassner notched her second assist of the season.
Kelsey Sherrey and Jennifer Mendez scored goals to wrap up the first half action for the Cougars. They entered the half leading 4-1.
COC midfielder Natalie Mitchell netted a goal in the 52nd minute, adding to the Cougars' lead at 5-1.
Jennifer Brown added two goals of her own to end a rough outing for the Bakersfield defenders.
COC's top scorer, Marissa Kneisel, was credited with an assist on four of the seven goals in the matchup. She leads the team with 23 points on the season.
The victory boosts COC's record to 6-1-3 overall, and remain undefeated against conference opponents at 3-0-1.
The Cougars host Glendale Community College at the college's upper field at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
