The College of the Canyons women's soccer team treated itself to a 1-0 victory over visiting L.A. Valley College on Halloween.
Following a close 1-0 loss to rival Santa Monica, the Cougars entered Friday's match ready to right the ship. However, moments of offensive struggle briefly reappeared, with COC entering halftime deadlocked in a scoreless tie.
Fortunes changed for the better in the 86th minute, when College of the Canyons defender Anabell Gonzalez scored the decisive goal off an assist from Astrid Perez.
The goal was Gonzales' third in three games, a notable feat for a defender. On defense, Gonzales helped anchor a backline that allowed goalkeeper Priscilla Duron to camp out comfortably for the majority of the night.
The Cougars move to 11-2-3 on the season.
