College of Canyons Leads WSC Supremacy Standings
COC also won the 2013-14 'Supremacy Award'
With the 2014-2015 academic and athletic season nearly two-thirds of the way through, College of the Canyons has taken the lead in the Western State Conference Supremacy Standings. The Cougars have an average of 7.13 points, nearly a point and half lead over second place Santa Barbara City College (5.44 points).
The WSC Supremacy Award was established during the 1980-1981 academic and athletic year, as a means to recognize the top performing college in the Western State Conference. College of the Canyons won it's first ever WSC Supremacy Award last year.
Canyons has surged out to the lead thanks in large part to it's impressive Fall where the Cougars won a total of four Western State Conference Championships. The Women's Volleyball and Soccer programs won the WSC South Division crowns, while Men's and Women's Cross Country and Women's Golf also while conference titles.
Sitting in second place headed into the Spring is Santa Barbara City College. The Vaqueros also had a strong fall, winning the WSC North titles in Women's Volleyball and Women's Soccer, as well as winning the WSC Championships in Women's Water Polo.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Los Angeles Mission College (5.00), Cuesta College (4.88), and Los Angeles Pierce College (4.60).
Points are awarded in the WSC Supremacy standings according to team's finishes in conference play. Those points are totalled up and then divided by the total number of sports they have competed in, to find the highest average. The final WSC Supremacy Standings will be released the first week of August.
