The College of the Canyons women's soccer team produced its most convincing win of the season, thus far, as the Cougars put six goals on the board on their way to a 6-0 victory over visiting Bakersfield College on Tuesday.
Canyons (5-1-4, 3-0-2) is now undefeated in its last seven games, with five of the contests coming against Western State Conference (WSC), South opponents.
The Cougars got on the board in the seventh minute when sophomore Marissa Kneisel scored her 11th goal of the season, on an assist from freshman Monica Blackstock.
Less than four minutes later freshman Kailey Marquez got her name in the statbook with an unassisted goal, her fourth of the season.
Canyons took a 2-0 lead into halftime but clearly was not satisfied, as the Cougars would score four more times in the contest.
Kneisel netted her second goal of the game, and 12th of the season, just 34 seconds into the second half. Freshman Amanda Balzer was credited with an assist on the play.
Later in the period sophomore Astrid Perez found the back of the net for the second time this season, with sophomore Taylor Sclimenti registering an assist on the play.
The Cougars would continue to attack eventually producing goals from freshman Stephanie Garcia and Balzer.
COC goalkeeper Jordan Burrow was credited with three saves on the afternoon en route to the shutout.
Canyons outshot Bakersfield 25-7 in the contest.
The Cougars will next travel to Glendale College on Friday, Oct. 16.
