Canyons Travels for 2-0 Victory Over Taft College

The College of the Canyons women's soccer team started its 2016 season in winning fashion, with the Cougars picking up a 2-0 road victory over Taft College on Saturday.

Canyons (1-0) netted its first goal of the season off the foot of freshman midfielder Angel Quintero, who put the Cougars on the board with the first goal of her COC career. Freshman Sigany Brice was credited with an assist on the play.

The Cougars combined for 15 shots in the game, but didn't come up with another goal until the 52nd minute when sophomore midfielder Kailey Marquez found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Marquez, a 2015 All-Western State Conference (WSC) First Team honoree, was assisted on the play by sophomore Jackie Mendez.

COC sophomore goalkeeper Kianna Hemphill, who earned 2015 All-WSC Second Team honors, was credited with her first win of the season after posting the shutout.

The victory marked COC head coach Justin Lundin's 99th career win with the program.

The Cougars will next face Cerritos College at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, as part of the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase hosted by Ventura College.
