The College of the Canyons women's soccer team dominated offensively defeating L.A. Valley 3-1 in a match that saw the Cougars record 27 shots.
Canyons struck early on an Alondra Solis header off a corner-kick, as her third goal of the year gave COC the advantage in the sixth minute.
LAVC would bounce right back though, with the Monarchs awarded a penalty just two minutes after the Solis goal. Monarch Danielle Tilton would beat COC goalie Jordan Burrow to even things at 1-1 just eight minutes into the match.
The fast-paced first half continued in the 16th minute when Canyons cashed in on another corner-kick. This time Crystal Sanchez found Kylia Bradford who buried the chance on a header for her third goal of the season, and it was 2-1 Cougars.
COC would strike once more late in the first half when Bradford scored her second goal of the night, and fourth of the campaign, off an Emily Aguilar pass that extended the lead to 3-1 heading into halftime.
Canyons continued to dominate in the second half, recording 17 shots in the last 45 minutes, but the Monarch defense put up a strong fight to keep the game at 3-1.
The COC back line also gave a strong effort, holding the Monarchs to just four shots on goal to help preserve the 3-1 result.
COC (6-1) will be off until Tuesday, Sept. 26 when the Cougars travel to Santa Barbara for a 2 p.m. start.
