A 7-0 victory against L.A. Valley College on Tuesday night helped get one step closer to winning the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division championship.
Canyons (11-4-1, 8-1-1) continues to lead the conference standings with two games remaining on the schedule. The Cougars have advanced to the postseason in nine consecutive seasons, but have not claimed the conference crown since 2017.
COC's Kylie Yuzon started in net and recorded one save before Zoe MacDonald started and finished the second half, also recording one save.
Canyons freshman Rebekah Brooks recorded the first goal of the match in the first three minutes. Lauryn Bailey followed up with another goal in the seventh minute, her sixth of the season.
An own goal by L.A. Valley (4-11-2, 2-6-1) and two more goals by Brooks in the 13th and 23rd minutes ended the first half with a 5-0 Cougar lead. The hat trick for Brooks, brings her to 17 goals on the season.
COC freshman Sarah Allen scored the sixth and seventh goals of the match, coming in the 56th and 66th minutes, capping the score at 7-0.
Canyons will next host West L.A. College at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. The Cougars will also be honoring their sophomores with a brief pre-game ceremony.
