Canyons Returns From Bakersfield as 6-1 Victors

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons defeated host Bakersfield College 6-1 on Friday to win its fourth straight match and remain undefeated vs. Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponents.

The six COC goals came from three different goal scorers and helped sophomore Rebekah Brooks up her season total to 14, currently tied for the state's No. 3 mark.

Sophomore Lauryn Bailey also turned in a pair of scoring plays, with the first coming in the fourth minute on an assist from Brooks. The goal was Bailey's seventh of the season, with the sophomore eventually upping her total to eight after her second score in the 74th minute.

Natalie Quezada got in on the action with her third goal of the season, coming on an assist from Naobi Orozco, in the 10th minute. 

Brooks then ended the first half scoring on a touch that was set up by a Jessie Bonsness assist in the 20th minute. 

The second half saw more of the same from the Cougars with Quezada, Brooks and Bailey combining to push the COC advantage to a 6-1 final score. Natalia Zuluga Rami was credited with an assist on Quezada's second score, which came in the 46th minute. 

Kyle Yuzon (5-2-1) earned the victory in net. She now has wins in her last three starts dating back to Sept. 27.

Canyons (7-2-1, 4-0) is back home on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to take on currently ranked No. 12 Citrus College (10-1, 4-0) in a key WSC, South Division match.
