CULVER CITY — College of the Canyons won its third straight conference match while pushing its unbeaten streak to five with a dominating 6-0 road result at West L.A. College on Tuesday.
COC freshman Ashley Striegel netted two goals to extend her team-leading total to eight, which is also tied for fourth in the Western State Conference (WSC). The current women's Student-Athlete of the Week scored in the sixth minute on an assist from Jessie Bonsness and again in the 24th off a touch from Alyssa Edwards to give Canyons a quick 2-0 advantage.
Moments later it was Natalia Zuluaga Ramirez finding Gisselle Gomez for another scoring drive, the sophomore's second of the season. Then, in the 30th minute Edwards notched a goal of her own to put Canyons in complete control at 4-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hazel Saucedo (3-3) earned the win for a Cougars' side that dominated the ball from start to finish and surrendered no major scoring opportunities.
Sarah Allen scored her third goal of the conference campaign in the 71st minute which opened the second-half action. That score came unassisted as did the exclamation point goal came Kiana Madera just a few sequences later in the 73rd minute for an eventual 6-0 final.
Canyons (6-3-1) has now outscored its Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponents by a 22-0 margin over its last three matches.
