College of the Canyons has not dropped a game in 11 matches, remaining undefeated in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division with its most recent result coming in a 3-0 victory over visiting Glendale College.
Despite Canyons (12-3-2, 9-0-1) recording 21 shots in the first half, it wasn't until the 41st minute that sophomore midfielder Gisselle Gomez put the Cougars ahead with her third goal of the season.
Glendale (1-11-3, 0-8-2) received a standout performance from goalkeeper Ashley Messier who worked to keep the Cougars at bay, recording 16 saves in the match.
However, in the second half, COC put the ball past Messier twice more. COC sophomore Jessie Bonsness found her second goal of the season, unassisted, in the 59th minute.
The two-goal lead was short-lived as COC sophomore forward Alyssa Edwards put away her eighth goal of the season almost immediately after in the 60th minute. Edwards was assisted by freshman Vivian Martinez.
Canyons was backed by freshman goalkeeper Anabella Gonzales (5-0-1) for the full 90 minutes, where she picked up the win and recorded one save.
COC is back at home Friday, Oct. 27 for a 4 p.m. kick-off vs. West Los Angeles College. The Lady Cougars then head to Bakersfield College on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for a 1:30 p.m. start.
