Lady Cougars Get Dominating 8-1 Win vs. West L.A.

College of the Canyons is now unbeaten across its last 12 matches after a dominating 8-1 home outing vs. West L.A. College on Friday.
Canyons (12-3-2, 9-0-1) controlled the pace from the opening whistle, needing just over 30 seconds to net its first goal off the foot of Natalia Zuluaga Ramirez.
Three minutes later it was Ryan Shepherd, off an assist from Felicia Marquez, extending the lead at 2-0.
Marquez was also credited with the assist on Alyssa Edwards' score in the 22nd minute. Edwards and Shepherd are tied for second on the team with nine goals each.
Victoria Martinez scored her first of three goals on the day with her scoring strike in the 30th minute. Martinez scored again in the 41st minute and recorded the Lady Cougars' lone goal in the second half extending the home side's advantage to 7-0 in the 50th minute.
Canyons also saw goal from Kylie Storaker, her first of the year, and Sarah Allen, her fourth, during s first half that was primarily played near the West L.A. box. Gisselle Gomez set up Allen's goal and was credited with the assist. Allen was also marked for an assist on Martinez' second-half score.
Annabella Gonzalez (6-0-1) started the game in net and played the first half to earn the win for COC. Hazel Saucedo played the final 45 minutes and was charged with the lone West L.A. goal.
The loss was thew third straight for West L.A. (2-15-1, 1-8-1).
Canyons, was now won four straight and is unbeaten dating back to Sept. 15. The No. 14 state ranked Lady Cougars continue to lead the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division and are gunning for the program's 12th straight postseason appearance.
Up next, a conference road match at Bakersfield College at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.
