Canyons Gets Second Straight Road Win 2-0 Over Glendale

GLENDALE — College of the Canyons posted another conference road win, this time taking down host Glendale College to walk away with a 2-0 result.
Canyons (9-4-1, 5-2-1) had previously beat the Vaqueros earlier in the month with the same score. Like it in the first meeting, once again it was sophomore midfielder Ashley Striegel striking first.
Striegel found the back of the net early in the first half, putting the ball past Vaqueros' goalkeeper Ainsley Stephenson in the 16th minute.
Glendale (6-7-2, 2-5-1) challenged COC sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Bench (7-3-1) once, but Bench was credited with the save, and eventually the win, after she stood in net for the full 90 minutes.
The Cougars found a second goal in the 50th minute of play, with the credit given to Victoria Martinez after a Vaqueros own-goal. This was Martinez's 10th of the season, as she leads her team.
With 35 minutes to go, the Vaqueros let Liliana Reynoso take over the goaltending duties where she worked for five saves on just as many shots. Stephenson recorded nine saves on 11 shots during her 56 minutes between the posts.
Canyons finished the match with a total of 22 shots, 17 of those on frame, while the Vaqueros worked for three total shots on goal, one of which was on target.
The Cougars are back home for their next two games, first welcoming Citrus College for a 6 p.m. kick-off on Tuesday, Oct. 29 before hosting Bakersfield College on Friday, Nov. 1 for a 4 p.m. start time.
