College of the Canyons Sweeps Moorpark
The College of the Canyons volleyball team swept visiting Moorpark College 3-0 on Friday evening at the Cougar Cage in a non-conference match up.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons volleyball team swept visiting Moorpark College 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday evening at the Cougar Cage in a non-conference match up. COC improved to 2-0 on the season, while Moorpark dropped to 0-1.
Freshman Serena LeDuff had another huge night with a match-high 16 kills. Sophomore setter Jordan Carter dished out 17 assists, while freshman Camari McWright had one block and four block assists. Sophomore libero Cassidy Fitzpatrick turned in 15 digs and sophomore opposite hitter Brielle Walker tallied nine.
The Cougars opened up the match 17-13 on back-to-back kills from LeDuff. COC continued to dominate, only letting the Raiders get as close as two points, 18-16. Canyon closed out the set and with a kill from Lauren Underwood and block and kill by McWright.
Canyons leapt out to a 10-5 on a handful of Raider miscues in the second set. Moorpark College would later go on a 6-1 run, as the Raiders became more aggressive offensively and decreased COC's lead to four, 20-16. COC responded with its own attack on a LeDuff kill and took the set 25-21.
After the set was knotted up 9-all in the third set, Moopark took the lead, 16-12, but COC rattled off six straight points to give the Cougars back the lead. After a Moorpark timeout and a 20-18 lead for the COC, Canyons finished off the Raiders, 25-21, for the match.
COC will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they host El Camino at 4 p.m.
