NOVATO, Calif.— The College of the Canyons volleyball team opened its season with a comeback 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-17) road victory over Victor Valley College on Wednesday night.
Despite losing the opening set, the Cougars stormed back winning three straight sets to cruise to the victory.
Sophomore standout Serena LeDuff registered 18 kills on 62 attacks and was the top point scorer, accounting for 20 of the team's 68 points over the four sets. Brooke Garelick added 13 kills on 33 attacks while scoring 13 points.
COC freshman setter Katie Rutecki lived up to her role, handing out an astonishing 43 assists.
The victory gives Canyons a 1-0 record and drops Victor Valley to 0-1.
The Lady Cougars continue their non-conference schedule at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, as they host Irvine Valley College at the Cougar Cage.
