Cougars Volleyball Sees Win Streak Continue
Middle Blocker Kaitlyn Reiner registers seven kills en route to a .538 kill percentage.
On Wednesday, head coach Lisa Hooper and the College of the Canyons volleyball team capped off its fourth straight victory — and seventh in the last eight games — by handily defeating Allan Hancock College 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-21) at the Cougar Cage.
As has become the norm, sophomore outside hitter Serena LeDuff put on an impressive display, totaling 12 kills on 17 total attacks for a .529 kill percentage, to go along with 10 digs.
Equally impressive was the play of middle blocker Kaitlyn Reiner whose 13 total attacks resulted in seven kills of her own for a .538 kill percentage. The sophomore also added two service aces and a block for a total of 10.5 points.
The Cougars also received five kills from freshman Alize Bricot, while Erika Tamayo. Lauren Underwood and Amanda Plante each tallied four kills apiece in the winning effort. Underwood led all Cougars with a .571 kill percentage on seven attacks.
Freshman setter Katie Rutecki added 12 more assists in the contest, giving her a total of 328 through the first 11 matches of the season. Sophomore setter Taylor Kasha registered 24 assists, three kills and six digs. Defensively, Chelsea Corn had 10 digs and Alexis Serafin contributed eight, while Brooke Garelick also added seven digs.
The Cougars are now 3-1 on their home floor, where they are averaging 13.5 kills per game and a .267 kill percentage.
COC will next host West L.A. College in the team's Western State Conference (WSC) opener at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Cougar Cage.
