Canyons Opens Season with 3-1 Win Over El Camino
Cougar freshman Emily Bible posts 17 kills, 12 digs and .412 hitting percentage.
The College of the Canyons women's volleyball team opened its season with a victory over El Camino College in the first round of the annual Grossmont College Quad Tourney, held Saturday, Aug. 29.
Canyons (1-0) powered to a 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-18, 25-18) victory over El Camino, the regional finalist from a year ago, with an impressive .268 hitting percentage led by freshman outside hitter Emily Bible.
Bible tallied 17 kills and a .412 hitting percentage, while also taking care of business defensively with 12 digs. The freshman also added four aces to help the Cougars maintain pressure on a Warriors team that finished the 2014 season ranked No. 6 in the state.
COC sophomore Alize Bricot complimented Bible's aggressive play with 13 kills of her own to go along with nine digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick added 11 digs, a .250 hitting percentage and four aces of her own, in helping COC to victory.
Sophomore setter Katie Rutecki was also instrumental in the win, posting 40 assists, 10 digs and two aces.
