The College of the Canyons women's volleyball team successfully defended its home court against visiting Victor Valley College on Wednesday, as the Cougars cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) win in their home opener.
After two impressive wins at the annual Grossmont Quad Tourney the previous weekend, Canyons (3-0) kept moving forward with a combination of strong offense and tough serves.
By keeping the pressure on their opponents from the service line, Canyons allowed its defense to dictate how the offense would run in transition.
The Cougars were led offensively by freshman outside hitter Emily Bible who posted nine kills. Sophomore opposite Alize Bricot added eight kills of her own and a .353 hitting percentage.
COC middle blocker Camari McWright finished the match with an impressive .444 hitting percentage and sophomore opposite Maddy Regan kept the pressure on the Rams from behind the service line with five aces.
The Cougars will look to remain unbeaten when they head south to face defending CCCAA State Champion Irvine Valley College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
