No. 5 Cougars Cruise Past Corsairs for 3-0 Conference Victory
Canyons has now won five straight matches, and eight of its last nine contests dating back to Sept. 16.
The College of the Canyons women's volleyball team visited Santa Monica College and came out with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 26-24) victory over the Corsairs.
No. 5 Canyons (15-2, 5-0) was led by sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick who posted nine kills and a .467 hitting percentage.
COC freshman outside hitter Emily Bible contributed seven kills of her own and a team-high 12 digs.
Sophomore middle hitters Camari McWright and Erica Magee each had five kills, no errors and a combined hitting percentage of .476.
COC sophomore setter Katie Rutecki — the reigning Western State Conference Player of the Week — had 26 assists and added three aces to help Canyons get the victory.
Canyons has now won five straight matches, and eight of its last nine contests dating back to Sept. 16.
In addition, the Cougars have yet to drop a set in conference play.
COC currently sits in first place in the Western State Conference (WSC), South, one game ahead of second place Santa Monica (10-8, 4-1).
The Cougars will next host No. 19 Bakersfield College at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.
