COC Setter Katie Rutecki Named WSC Female Athlete of the Week
Rutecki racked up 44 assists, 10 aces and six digs in just four sets of play during the period running Oct. 5-12.
College of the Canyons sophomore setter Katie Rutecki has been named the Western State Conference (WSC) week six (Oct. 5-12) female athlete of the week.
Rutecki earned the honor after helping lead the No. 5 state ranked COC women's volleyball team to a pair of conference victories over West L.A. College and Citrus College.
Over the course of those two matches Rutecki racked up 44 assists, 10 aces and six digs in just four sets of play, as the Cougars swept both opponents with 3-0 victories.
Rutecki, a Burroughs High School graduate, is currently ranked third in the entire California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) in assists per set with 10.64, and has quarterbacked a Canyons offense that ranks first in the CCCAA in kills per set at 13.32.
In 2014, Rutecki earned an All-WSC Honorable Mention designation after ranking second on the team with 450 assists while averaging 9.18 assists per set.
Canyons (13-2, 3-0) will next host Glendale College (3-13, 1-2) at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Cougar Cage.
