No. 14 Canyons Outright Clinches WSC Title, Moves Streak to 11

No. 14 College of the Canyons finished the task of winning a Western State Conference (WSC), South Division championship on Wednesday, defeating Glendale College 3-0 to outright claim the title they had clinched at least a share of the week prior. Set scores were 25-7, 25-18, 25-17.
Canyons (16-7, 10-0) made short work of the Vaqueros (4-18, 2-8) needing just under an hour to earn the title-clinching victory. The win was the 11th straight for COC which remains undefeated in conference play having dropped just a single set. The Cougars are now 7-2 on their home court.
Ariana Vargas recorded seven kills in the match, upping her total to 124 for the season, fourth on the squad. Jacqueline Ibarra also finished the night with seven kills on a .462 hitting night.
Brianna Botello hit .444 for the match with five kills. Sahliyah Ravare added four kills and a blocked shot, one of 15 combined blocks in the match for Canyons.
Isabella Embleton led the Cougars with nine digs and added an ace on the offensive end.
Canyons tallied 12 aces in the game including four from Aly Grodell and three from Aubrey Audish, who also added seven digs. Mia Gitsham finished with four total blocks and a kill. Alyssa Alcaraz helped pace the action with a game-high 17 assists, two aces and five digs.
With the program's seventh conference title in its possession, Canyons will now look to continue its undefeated run through the conference schedule, a feat not accomplished by the Cougars since the 2015 season.

Upcoming Schedule
Canyons welcomes West L.A. to town at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. A special 'Sophomore Night' ceremony will take place proceeding first serve. As always admission and live stream broadcast coverage on the Cougars Sports Network are free.
COC then heads to Antelope Valley College on Friday, Nov. 11. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
